St. Bernard Catholic Church

Lund-Ross led the phased historic renovation of St. Bernard Catholic Church in north Omaha. The distinct structure was built in the Benson neighborhood in the 1930s and features Spanish architectural elements like a red tile roof, stucco walls, and ornamental columns.

Lund-Ross worked closely with the architect to develop a phased construction schedule that coordinated with the church’s fundraising goals. During Phase I, St. Bernard’s outdated electrical systems were replaced, and Lund-Ross carpenters performed a detailed rehabilitation of the windows. The historic exterior of the church was restored, and the prominent red tile roof and copper gutter and flashing were replaced.

Phase II included the interior restoration of the upper half of the sanctuary. Lund-Ross installed new woodwork, trim, paint, light fixtures, and tile to match the original look of the church. During Phase III, the lower half of the sanctuary was returned to its original state. New pews were created to match the original pews found in the church. The chancel area at the front of the sanctuary was extended, and a ramp was added to make it handicap accessible.

Lund-Ross successfully completed the three phases of the historic renovation of St. Bernard Catholic Church on time and within budget.
